Juanita Lascarro - Soprano

Colombian born Juanita Lascarro began her studies in biology in Bogotá, before moving to Cologne to pursue her singing career at the Cologne Musikhochschule and the Opera Studio of the Cologne Opera.

Notable operatic roles to date include Lulu, Manon, Donna Elvira, Violetta, Pamina, Fiordiligi, Suor Angelica, Daphne, Emma (Fierrabras, Schubert), Broucek (Janacek), Zdenka, Musette and Fiordiligi , Countess Almaviva, Antonia, Daphne, Zarfana in the Feen from Wagner, and Agrippina for the Opera Frankfurt, where she is a principal soloist.

Elsewhere she has performed Poppea , Mimi (Leoncavallo's Bohème),and Adele in the Fledermaus at Theater an der Wien, Juliette with Rolando Villazón (Roméo et Juliette) at Vienna State Opera and Bavarian State Opera, Poppea in Zürich, Princess Laoula in Chabrier's L'Étoile at the Berlin State Opera under Simon Rattle, Daphne for Deutsche Oper Berlin under Thielemann and Netherlands Opera, Manon (Boulevard Solitude) ,Tiefland and Zerlina at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, and Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) and Oberto for Opéra National de Paris. At Welsh National Opera she has performed Liù (Turandot), Mimì (La boheme) and The Cunning Little Vixen, and she took the title role in Pelléas et Mélisande and Fiorilla in Turco in Italia at La Monnaie. She is a regular guest at the Teatro Colón, Bogotá, where her roles have included Adina (L'elisir d'amore), Michaela (Carmen), Susanna, Violeta and Juliette, and for Garsington, Daphne, Adele in Comte Ory and Mirandolina. She sang The Greek Passion (Janacek) under Mackerras at Covent Garden.

In concert Juanita Lascarro's performances include appearances with the Leipzig Gewandhaus under Lothar Zagrosek, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Vladimir Ashkenazy, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Antonio Pappano, the Finnish Radio Symphonie Orchestra under Sakari Orama, the Danish Radio Sinfonietta under Adam Fischer, and the Gürzenich Orchestra under James Conlon. She made her Proms debut in Weill's Der Silbersee conducted by Markus Stenz, and performed Villa Lobos' Bachiana Brasileira No. 5 with the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at the Proms and at the Salzburg Spring Festival, as the 8th of Mahler with Inouishi at the Royal Albert Hall.

In recital Juanita Lascarro has made appearances at the Bath International Festival, the Steensgard Festival, the Cork Chamber Music Festival and London's Wigmore Hall, the Cologne Philharmonie, Sala Luis Angel Arango, Bogotá, amongst many others.

Her discography includes Les contes d'Hoffmann and Alcina for Erato, Der Silbersee for BMG, Die Verlobung im Traum for Decca, Der Zwerg for EMI and La Senna Festeggiante for Opus III. Arcadian Duets from Händel for Virgin, and a seleccion of Spanish songs for Òpera Tres, a selection of De Falla songs with the Katona brothers for Channel Classics and Amor Oriental, Händel alla Turca for Harmonia Mundi.

Opera highlights in the 2011-12 Season are Laoula, Fiordiligi and Donna Elvira in Frankfurt, Antonia in Theater an der Wien, and the revival of L'Étoile under Sir Simon Rattle in the Staatsoper Berlin.
