Carneval Oriental – Authentically Baroque

Photos: peuserdesign.de

The collaborative CD “Carneval Oriental” with soloists Francesca Lombardi Mazzulli and Charlotte Quadt was released by Capriccio in 2016.

Lush, sensual, colorful – that is what one associates with the Baroque era. Today, on the other hand, one is more concrete with their imaginations, still trying to imagine what music might have sounded like in the Baroque era. One has researched many things, found answers in old treatises, experimented and tried to reconstruct various aspects such as the instruments, old playing and articulation techniques – and yet one does not know whether the technical perfection or one’s sobriety might stand in the way of creating a truly Baroque feeling in the music today.

The melancholy sound of the Ottoman instruments, the lively playing of the colorful Baroque instruments, the art of improvisation and the dancing rhythms of the percussion blend into a lush whole that feels truly Baroque.

Weilburger Tageblatt in July 2019

“A Baroque ensemble and one that plays Ottoman music with Turkish and European instruments, and then they also start improvising and playing jazz. Is that possible? And how well it works! [...] Conclusion: an extraordinary concert that has never been heard before at the Weilburg Castle Concerts. More of this, please!
